Go-Karts Race At Greenwood
Seven defending champions will be on hand for the Greenwood Enduro Go-Kart race today and Sunday at Greenwood Roadway near Indianola.
Close to 200 entries from eight midwest states are expected for the season's opening event at the three-mile Greenwood course.
Defending champions returning this weekend include John Brading, Jr., Valley Falls, Kans., 1965 Junior Stock champion; Ronald Johnson, independence, Mo., Junior Modified winner last year; Bob Miller, Anamosa, Ia., Modified Heavy champion; Robert Lamborn, St. Joseph, Mo., Stock Heavy champion; Jack Kaplan, Cedar Rapids, Ia., "B" Limited winner; Jerry Harrison, Omaha, Neb., "B" Stock champion; and Roy Harrington, Clinton, Ia., "C" Open winner.
The two-day program will begin with time trials each day at 9 a.m. Races get under way at 2 p.m. today and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Greenwood Roadway is located 28 miles south of Des Moines on Highway 65.

Texan Wins Greenwood's Kart Feature
Indianola, Ia. - William R. Bowers of Houston, Tex., won the Junior "A" Modified division in the top race of the first day of the Enduro Go-Kart races at Greenwood Roadway near here. A record 179 entries are competing.
Driving a Hornet Kart with an MC-8 engine, Bowers edged John Brading, Jr., of Valley Falls, Kan., and Bob Hathaway of Cedar Rapids, Ia.
Kenneth Dick of Ames, Ia., was taken by ambulance to Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines after his kart flipped off the track shortly after he was clocked at 112 miles per hour.
Action continues today with the heavy class races beginning at 10 a.m. The track is located 28 miles south of Des Moines on Highway 65.
